New Products

Wizards of the Coast has created two new products to help new players get a strong start in the world of Magic!

The First is the new beginner Box:

Contents:
  • 10 themed packs of cards (includes 20 cards per pack)
    • Each pack includes 20 cards from Foundations (FDN). Shuffle two together and play!
    • Jumpstart packs are predetermined and designed for beginner play.
    • Packs contain additional Foundations (FDN) cards and do not contain cards from Foundations Jumpstart (J25).
  • 2 Reference Cards
  • 1 Reference Guide Booklet
  • 2 How to Play Booklet Guides
  • 2 Gameboard Playmats
  • 2 Spindown life counters

The beginner box is supposed to be just that, the beginning of your magic experience. It includes two different hands-on guided deck experiences, reference booklet, playmats, and bonus packs for easy jump-in play with a friend. Everything you need to start! This product addresses a problem I've been hoping Wizards of the Coast would fix in the new player experience for a long time. Getting into Magic for the first time has always been the hardest step in any players magic journey. It is so hard to know where to begin and start a collection of cards and this product is both an introduction on how to play and helps you build a small collection that you can immediately start building decks with. It's nice to see wizards addressing that problem! Preorder now!

Note from Wizards about this product:

"Please note: the starter decks included in this product are not meant to be shuffled; however, their cards are in the reverse order. Before playing, place the deck face-up in front of you and flip each card, one at a time, face down to reorder the cards. Then, they will match the order of the included decklists and can be played using the guided deck experience."

The second new product is the Starter Collection:

Contents:
  • 350+ Magic: The Gathering cards (in a fixed set)
  • 3 Magic: The Gathering Foundations Play Boosters
  • 2 Reference Cards
  • Includes 22 Foil Cards
  • 13 Tokens
  • 95 Basic Lands, including 10 full art lands
  • 1 How to Build Your Deck Booklet
  • 1 Click Wheel
  • Play Boosters may contain these cards: FDN 1–361; SPG 74–83. Each Play Booster includes 1–4 cards of rarity Rare or higher (2: 26%; 3: 2%; 4: <1%) and 3–5 Uncommon, 6–9 Common, and 1 Land cards. 1 card of any rarity is Traditional Foil. Foil Borderless Mythic Planeswalker in <1% of boosters. Traditional Foil Land replaces a Land in 20% of boosters.

The Starter Collection contains a set of cards to help you immediately start a collection and start building decks. We aren't sure yet what exactly will be in these 350 cards but Wizards says they will be essential staples for any color and any made up of old and new favorites alike. This sounds like an awesome product for new or experienced players and will give them a starting point for formats like standard. The fact that it comes with tokens, basic lands, and a life counter is an awesome plus that can often be forgotten in products like this. I often have players searching high and low for tokens so its nice to see them included. Preorder now!
